Fireplace Makeover

Fireplace Makeover

About 5 years ago we were fortunate enough to be able to buy a brand new house. It was a builder spec house, which basically means it was already built and therefore we didn’t pick out any of the finishes. For the most part I was really happy with everything in the house but the fireplace always stood out to me…not in a good way.

Sure the white mantel is classic and timeless. And the stone isn’t offensive, it is a nice neutral color. But the builder created this cutout above the fireplace that was really just an awkward shape. Our TV never fully covered the space and therefore you could always see a gap above the TV.

So, 5 years later I decided to redo the whole fireplace. We replaced the stone with a more modern, floor to ceiling limestone. Opted for a rustic, simple mantel. And, upgraded the gas insert with a horizontal style including glass beads instead of logs. I am so pleased with how it turned out! The whole room feels larger and style wise it is just more elevated.

I’ve included a link to the exact mantel I purchased on line. Regarding the fireplace insert, it is the Cosmo version from Heat & Glo. I believe this must be purchased from a dealer.
